Pixel Pins

8bit games are the best. Not only are the stories and gameplay classic, but they have such iconic artwork. I remember playing The Legend of Zelda on NES for hours (okay, days) on end, and once I finally returned to reality, I was amazed that the world did not look like the 8bit pixelized world I had just emerged from.

To rectify this egregious issue, I turned to my childhood craftiness! Melty beads were (and still are!) a staple for kids and crafts. They also happen to be absolutely perfect for creating awesome 8bit pixel accessories!

Reference any 8bit image from a game or design your own and copy that onto the plastic canvas with the plastic Melty Beads. Once your design is perfect, use the wax paper to cover the beads and iron until the beads have melted together. I decided to iron a little longer than normal to make the beads melt together more and create a more solid back. Then let your design cool, and pop it off the plastic canvas.

You can make any kind of accessory you want – rings, necklace, bracelet, etc. I decided on hairpins and super-glued a metal hairpin to the back. Let it dry overnight.

Wake up to a beautiful Pixel Pin you can wear and flaunt your geeky 8bit love to the world!
